Agenda of the Convention

Whether you are a past, present or future candidate you are urged to attend this event. The day will provide an opportunity for networking (being an Independent can be lonely) and education. We intend to organize a group of speakers to educate us about:

Educational Issues:

how does an Independent fit into the constitutional structure of the country

the evolution of Political parties and what can be done to stop them from monopolizing the political process

why the time is ripe for Independent candidates

– the Elections Act: what does it mean for Independent candidates

– A Coalition if Necessary, But not necessarily a coalition: why the future belongs to Independents

Motivational Issues:

We want to motivate you to run as an Independent!

We want to motivate you to persuade others to run as an Independent

If you don’t want to run, we want to persuade you to help an Independent or to vote for an Independent

Logistical Issues:

how to get on the ballot

how to go about getting your 100 signatures

how to work with your Official Agent

how to organize your campaign so that it is easy for your Official Agent

why campaign contributions are overrated

why you should never wait to be invited to a debate

how to campaign in the digital world

– how to campaign for free: blogs, facebook, digital links, etc.

Speakers List:

– we will update this as it becomes final

Networking Opportunities:

– meet like minded people

  1. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the convention in Toronto. I am of like mind, having run as an independent candidate in the 2008 Federal election in the electoral district of Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, in Saskatchewan.
I am with you in spirit, and hope to follow up on outcomes of the convention.

    • Hello Rick:

Thanks for your interest in the Independent’s Convention on February 28. The interest in this event is coming from people who are very geographically dispersed. In the addition, the numbers are not huge. Hence, we have decided to hold the “convention” via a skype (or I can conference you in with a land line) conference call.

I would like to initiate the call at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday February 28. Please feel free to forward this message to others. Based on the conference call, there will certainly be a live meeting/convention in the next couple of months.\

I hope that you will participate, Please reply confirming your availability and your Skype id.

  2. Hello,
